Auto Transmission Noise: What Does it Mean?
Here at Broadway Transmission & More, one of the signs our technicians often see is noise in the transmission of our customers’ cars, trucks or SUVs.
Is automatic transmission noise a problem?
This noise can occur when the vehicle is changing speed – either to go faster or slower – or perhaps klunking and jerking when the vehicle shifts from Park. Noises like these usually indicate wearing or damage in an automatic transmission since shifting gears should be quiet and smooth.
Is it different for manual transmissions?
Such wear or damage is suspected on a manual transmission when we hear unusual grinding noise. This is sometimes associated with shaking, rattling or shuddering while the vehicle is moving.
Will it go away on its own?
It might be tempting to ignore unusual transmission noises, but they rarely disappear. Most likely, they will just get worse; and more damage will be done to the transmission in the process.
So don’t put your transmission and your vehicle at risk. Have your transmission checked by a qualified transmission tech like those at Broadway Transmission & More, here in Red Lion, PA.
