Does the Level of Automatic Transmission Fluid Matter?
The automatic transmission is the most complex piece of technology in your vehicle. Without it, the wheels cannot turn. So you’re going nowhere!
Does the fluid level matter?
At the heart of the automatic transmission is the fluid that makes it function. Unless the fluid is kept at the right level, the transmission will labor and could even fail completely.
How do I check my transmission fluid level?
So it is important to check your transmission fluid level often using the transmission dipstick. This dipstick is located off to the side and deeper in the engine than the one used to measure engine oil. The car’s engine must be running to correctly gauge the fluid level.
What causes a low fluid level?
A low transmission fluid level usually means that there is a leak. The telltale sign of such a leak is reddish-brown liquid spotting the ground underneath the vehicle.
Leaks can occur from almost 20 different external transmission seals. Some leaks are easier to detect and repair than others, but having the transmission checked by a professional technician is critical.
Here at Broadway Transmission & More, our technicians have the state-of-the-art equipment and the training and certifications to diagnose your transmission problems – from leaks to component failures. Why not make an appointment today for a routine transmission inspection.
